New Beginnings!

Well, despite some winter weather, the Spring 2011 semester has not only begun, but is in full swing! I am taking my final two classes before student teaching this fall: Content Literacy with Dr. Hollibush, and Literacy & Technology with Dr. Smirnova. There is quite a bit of reading to be done for Content Lit., but I have found that my texts are actually quite easy to read, as well as interesting. I'm a bit worried about the "Technology" part of my Lit. & Tech. class, as I am not accustomed to many of the technological advances! I am the type of person who still prefers to rummage through the library and find my information in a real book, as opposed to electronic media. However, I am quite addicted to my ipod, the Sync system in my new Ford Escape, and expedia.com for finding good travel deals, so I may not be as technologically challenged as I think! I am confident that with the resources provided to us by Dr. Smirnova, and good ol' trial and error, I will be just fine!

My group had our first online meeting Thursday night. We stumbled through some learning together and named ourselves The Three Blind Mice. Quite simple, but we felt as though we may in fact be, "the blind leading the blind!" We established our group motto, which is: "Working together to encourage students to enhnace their learning experience by embracing the technological resources available to them."

As I complete my first blog entry, after having set it up (all by myself, go me!) I have gained a bit of confidence that I will get through this technology stuff just fine. Now, off to go have a battle of wits with my printer... it seems to have sensed my confidence and has decided to challenge me by refusing to communicate with the computer. Best of luck to all in these first assignments!
